print article
A peaceful demonstration organised to protest against the continued construction of the Israeli "security
fence" has been attacked by scores of heavily armed Israeli soldiers.
The protest was held at the fence in the northern West Bank
at Anin, near Jenin. Members of the Popular
Committees Against the Wall, the Palestinian National Initiative, The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and more than 30 "Israeli activist against the wall" and the Israeli coexistence group Tayyoush participated in the demonstration, held in front of one section of the two meter high electrified fence.
The non-violent nature of the demonstration was shattered when the Israeli troops fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the unarmed demonstrators. Six people were wounded,
including Thomas Bacon from Texas and Andrew Dickie from Scotland who was shot in the thigh and abdomen; another
American, one Israeli and two Palestinians had to receive
medical treatment.
Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, the secretary general of the Palestinian National Initiative who participated in the
demonstration and made a speech reported, "The
soldiers attacked us after we hung a map of the apartheid
wall on the fence itself. The map shows how the Israeli
government is stealing even more land from the Palestinians
with the construction of this supposed security wall.
However, we are not even permitted to demonstrate
peacefully without coming under attack". www.palestinemonitor.org/updates/update_... add your comments

according to 'Haaretz'

according to 'Haaretz' the soldiers started to
fire rubber bullets and tear gas only after
"...about 300 protesters gathered on both sides
of the barrier and tried to tear down a gate in
the
fence."
so I guess someone is lying... I wander who.

Even Haaretz can make mistakes

" The demonstrators approached the fence from the
Palestinian side,
by a gate intended to enable the villagers of
Anin reach their lands, which were left on the
Israeli side of the fence.
But
the gate remained blocked. The protesters began
cutting the barbed wire with fence cutters. "
The three lies (on uttered twice):
"a gate intended to enable the villagers of Anin
reach their lands"
Israel never intended to enable the villagers to
reach their land. Or else the gate could have
opened.
"the Israeli side "
I am not sure about the location of this specific
piece, but only something ON the green line has
an Israeli side.
"of the fence"
It is a ^%^&$%&&* WALL!!!

Tear the wall down, please

There was no attempt to destroy the wall.
How could unarmed people non-violently destroy a wall defended by the Israeli Army? You must be joking...
There was an attempt to open a gate, the opening of which Israel has been promising since it was established, but has never performed.
The goal of the demonstration was to symbolically force open the gate in the Apartheid Wall, which separates the village of Anin from over 11,000 dunams/2,750 acres of its land.
An Israeli wall has no place on Palestinian Territory.
It's presence there constitutes an act of violence and terrorism against the Palestinian people, as does the presence of Israeli settlements/settlers on Palestinian soil. add your comments

Why Lie Mr. Baragouti ?

Mr. Baragouthi,
You have a valid claim: Israel has built a fence
that robs Palestinian framers from access to
their land.
You know that such an access is needed only
toward the olive picking time. The farmers will
need to clean the brush under the trees so that
they can put the matterss on which they let the
olives fall. This is in September not now.
You know that the demo was not "peaceful" - the
army again and again made warning and only shot
after the tear gas prevented the ISMers from
cutting the fence.
So why lie Mr. Baragouthi ? You have a valid
claim - why don't you stick to it ?
Or maybe you do not care about the issue and all
you care about is scoring PR points in the
propaganda war against Israel ? In this war every
lie is a valid weapon?
How can we trust anything else you say when we
saw on TV (including El-Gazira) exactly what
occurred in Anin ?
Why lie Mr. Baragouthi ?

Of course the tear gas did not prevent the ISMers
from cutting the fence and this is why the army
had to shot the rubber bullets.
As much as we are against the route of the fence
there is no need to turn this into violent
action.
violence is not just guns.
