He was wise enough to know that the law of dividing into equal parts has its limits. (just as Job found out about the belief that all human suffering was punishment from a just but punishing Gd...and he was shown this was wrong)... Solomon, the symbolism here, is showing that the "heart" transcends this law of equal parts..The one who truly loved the child would not allow it to be cut into parts..Would rather see the other woman have the baby, rather than see it destroyed....Where do the Israeli and Palestinians fall in this story, i am asking?? To build a wall like this, i feel, is cutting the baby in half...
