PM rejects Jordan's request to rule out `transfer' in Iraq war

By Aluf Benn

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has rejected Jordan's request that Israel issue a public declaration opposing the "transfer" of Palestinians from the West Bank.

Recently, Jordanian officials have displayed concern about the possibility that Israel might exploit an American attack on Iraq by expelling masses of Palestinians from the West Bank to Jordan. Senior Jordanian officials have raised this concern in talks with Israeli and American counterparts. The Jordanians asked for assurances that Israel will refrain from implementing transfer policies.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher brought up the concern last September at the United Nations, in talks with former foreign minister Shimon Peres. Muasher asked for a formal Israel announcement renouncing transfer. The Jordanians asked that the declaration come directly from the prime minister.

Peres promised Muasher that he would speak with Sharon about the issue. The Jordanian request was delivered through other channels as well. The request reached Sharon, but he rejected it.

Sharon refuses to be involved in any discussion about transfer, explained a source who was involved in contacts about the Jordanian request. "He took exception to the Jordanians raising such a suspicion about him."

The Americans decided to deliver the Jordanian message to Israel at a high official level, explained a top Jordanian official. President George Bush and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice raised the issue in their meetings with Sharon in Washington last month.

William Burns, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, who visited the region last October, told Israeli officials that Jordan's leaders had expressed fears about mass expulsion of Palestinians during a coming war against Iraq.

The U.S. assured the Jordanians that no transfer scenario is in the offing, the Jordanian source says. Yet officials in Amman still hope that Israel will issue a formal declaration. The Jordanian official quoted remarks made by Israeli officials in favor of transfer, and cited poll results that indicate a measure of public support for the idea.

The Jordanians have refrained from raising the transfer issue in public due to the assurances they received from Washington, top Israeli officials speculated.

Sharon and his rethorics Latin

That a man who happens to be the leader of a country he calls democratic can not rule out ethnic cleansing of a people he is in control of is scaring at best.

Allthough he said that : "He took exception to the Jordanians raising such a suspicion about him"......his previous statements does not exactly put my mind at rest. We are talking about a massmurderer found guilty by the very state he now is leading who has previously also advocated these horrendous policy called transfer.

It is really sad to see Israel elect this man, and most likely will again. It is a witness of the dispair of the Israeli people brought upon them by a false and brutal ideology and the very predictable ooutcome of this ideaology.

Peace will one day come....but will probably be postponed for at least four more years.

This is sad

I am sick of this fucking game.

It is not a secret that 6million died in Europe. It is not a secret that Jews were cleansed by both Muslim Arabs and European Christians in historic Israel and historic Palestine as well as any other place they settled down. It is not a secret that the Jewish people have suffered maybe more than any other people in history....but that still does not and will never justify the actions in questions.

Your argument is: They did it...so so can we!! Can everyone for once realize how dumb, pathetic, childish and very narrowminded this is!!!!

It is not odd that the "ethnic cleansing" of people living on land they illegally occupy doesn't bother him; nor should it bother anyone. The occupation is ILLEGAL. Anyone living there is living there ILLEGALLY!

The murdering bastard Arile Sharon wants PEACE alright, A PIECE of every goddamn thing in the Middle East. The Jews voted this war criminal as there leader and that makes every son of a bitch that voted for him, as much to blame for all the deaths that has occurred since he took office.

There is ultimatly only one solution to the Jewish pollution and that is dissolution, dissloution, dissolution.

Yeah... that's a real holocaust going on in "historic Palestine"... how many have been killed, 1,700?
In war, people die. You are saying however that it is Israel's goal to kill Palestinians. If it is, how have only 1,700 died on the past two years? Do you think the IDF is so incompetent that when its goal is to commit genocide they kill only 1,700 in two years?

The treatment of the Palestinian people is comparable to the Jewish Ghettos of Europe under Nazi occupation. Please don't get me wrong, I am not comparing Israel to the Nazis, but the condition of treatment, which has ben done to many people through time, is the same. The Palestinian people no longer have hope.

The biggest difference and the current reality though is this: the Palestinian have trusted and have in power the wrong people. They do deserve a state. but they have been exploited and used for Arafat and his gang - they take their funding, they have made poor descions with the single minded goal of destroying Israel. Having many relatives in Israel, I know for a fact that many were hopeful of the peace process.

However, Israel watched the PA and Arafat very carefully and never trusted him from the start. Arafat created incitement among his people, he organized suicide bombers and violated every measure of the Oslo accords. If you don't believe it, go look it up.

The bottom line is, that Arafats actions created Sharon, as Clinton told Arafat at Camp David - that if he did not reach an agreement with Barak, the Israeli people would elect a Right Wing Government.

Mow you have many Palestinian leaders coming out and saying that the up rinsing was a mistake and that they should have accepted the Camp David offer. And the Myth about Camp David is that Israel offered something that was less of a state - BUT that Arafat NOT ONCE made a counter offer.

Arafat has never wanted peace, the Palestinians have the worst leadership in the world. They are disunited, used by the Arab nations for propaganda and pressure on the US. You think the Arab world wishes a State for the Palestinian. Think again.

Does this justify Israelis actions - no! They will pay the price for it in the future, one day. The Jews are a complex people with a consciences to them and they are already talking about how they will have to judge this in History.
But for now, the Palestinians have made a terrible mistake and are paying the price.

You can revise history all you want, say what you will - until you ease the fear Israel's people have, there will never be peace.

You missed my point: you say that Israel intentionally kills Palestinian civilians. If Israel really wants to kill Palestinian civilians, how many would have died?

And as for the claim that Palestinians under Israeli occupation are like Jews under the Nazis - get a brain, and then talk.

ISRAEL IS A JUDEO-FASCIST STATE. Latin

I have respect for the way they (the palestinians)stand their ground and face death at will and fight on against all the odds.
Against foul, lecherous devious, murdering bastard Jews who invade from that ingrown toe-nail called Israel.
They who have wormed their way into the very corridors of American power, like maggots in a putrescent body.
And are now using this vast pool of finances and resources to bludgeon a basically unarmed populace to death in broad daylight.

Do you honestly think they don't have at least a right to fight back by the only means available to them ? Would you like to tie their hands behind their backs before bulldozing them ?
I am sure if they had their hands on the American coffers like the Jews have their grubby mits on it, they would probably invest in some Merkeva's and Longbow's themselves.
But alas they don't stand a chance against Jews when it comes to getting their hands on money. Because the Jew will stoop to far lower depths than anyone else to get it.

If they didn't fight there would be peace today. To remind you, Operation Defensive Shield was in retaliation for suicide bombings. Maybe you want to tie our hands behind our backs and let them kill us?

If they hadn't used the money and weapons WE gave them we would currently be living together peacefully.
